With Christmas just around the corner let’s try and support some regional businesses to keep our rural economies kicking.
Many city folk repeatedly ask what they can do to support regional communities suffering from drought so I’ve compiled a list of some of my favourite online shops based in regional areas that you and your family can support this Christmas.
An online fashion boutique for women; a gorgeous mix of clothing full of timeless and classic pieces. Owner, Prue Kelly is based in Dubbo. Her husband is a farmer and they have two young children.
Mink and Me
This regional boutique is based in Coonamble but also has a strong online presence. Mink and Me offers a wonderful collection of fun and fabulous items for you and your home. Lucy Moss is the brainchild behind Mink and Me and is married to a farmer at Coonamble.
Eliza Lane Designs
My clever sister, Ali (the creative one) makes gorgeous earrings for all occasions ranging from studs through to tassels. Ali is happy to custom make the perfect set of earrings to compliment your outfit and has even designed and created earrings for bridesmaids. Ali is based at Come-by-Chance.
Based in Walgett, Stone’s Throw was opened by owner, Katie Murray in 2014 after relocating to the region for her boyfriend at the time, Jay (a local farmer). They’re now married with three children. Despite the ongoing drought in Walgett, Stone’s Throw has continued to go from strength to strength and just recently bought and relocated to a bigger premise. Described by many as a real hub for the town and a wonderful escape from the drought you’ll find great coffee, delicious food and a wide array of gifts for everyone in the family.
The Good Gift Co
Holly Goodman lives in Tamworth with her husband who is a Stock and Station Agent and their two young boys. Holly developed the The Good Gift Co in light of people often not having time to find that perfect gift. Holly can help you deliver a wide range of gifts ranging from personalised basket bags through to gorgeous hampers that will leave a lasting impression. The ready made gift hampers or create your own are perfect for that hard to buy person in your life or even for corporate gifts.
Of course there is also ‘Yum Yum…Where Does It Come From?’ and ‘Diamonds in the Dust’ so we’ve got the kids, mum, mum-in-law, aunt, grandma and sister covered.
There are plenty of other wonderful rural businesses, share your favourites with us!
